How programmes are structured

What a typical mystery-shopping engagement looks like

A well-structured mystery-shopping engagement is not a one-off audit; it is a recurring cycle of measurement, insight and improvement. A typical programme begins with a scoping phase to define the business questions and service standards, followed by scenario and criteria design, evaluator matching and briefing, and then a first cycle of evaluations across the agreed locations and channels.

Most programmes run in monthly or quarterly cycles, with a consistent sample size at each location so scores are comparable over time. After each cycle, submissions are reviewed, scored and benchmarked, and a report is delivered with prioritised corrective actions. Findings flow into the executive dashboard, where they become tracked actions with owners and follow-up — and the next cycle measures whether the improvement held.

Client names and identifying details are anonymised to protect confidentiality. Programme outcomes and references can be discussed in detail during a consultation.
