  • • Photographic evidence
  • • Corrective actions

What is a retail store audit?

A retail store audit is a structured, on-site inspection that checks whether a store meets your operational and brand standards. Trained auditors visit each location with a tailored checklist and record compliance on visual merchandising, pricing, promotions, stock availability, cleanliness, staff presentation and SOPs, supported by photographic evidence. Unlike financial audits, retail audits focus on execution in the store: what the customer actually sees and experiences.

Retail audit vs mystery shopping

Mystery shopping evaluates service as a customer would experience it, discreetly. A retail audit can be announced or unannounced and focuses on the physical store and its compliance. Many UAE retailers combine both: the audit checks the store, the mystery shop checks the service.

What a retail audit covers

  • Visual merchandising: planogram compliance, window and display standards, fixture condition
  • Pricing and promotions: correct price tags, promotional material, offer execution
  • Stock availability: out-of-stocks on key lines, back-room versus shop floor
  • Store condition: cleanliness, lighting, fitting rooms, restrooms and entrance
  • Staff presentation: uniform, grooming, name badges and availability on the floor
  • SOP compliance: opening and closing checks, safety signage, queue management
  • Point-of-sale and checkout: queue length, card terminals, receipts and returns policy display

Why UAE retailers use store audits

  • Consistency across malls and emirates, from Dubai Mall to community centres
  • Verification that head-office campaigns are executed correctly and on time
  • Evidence for franchise and partner compliance reviews
  • Objective data for area managers instead of subjective store visits

Deliverables

Every audit produces a store-level report with scores and photographs, a compliance scorecard by section, region and branch benchmarks, and a prioritised corrective-action list. Results are available on your dashboard so area managers can track actions to completion.

Frequently asked questions

Are retail audits announced or unannounced?

Both options are available. Unannounced audits show everyday standards; announced audits are useful when the auditor needs access to back-of-house areas.

Do you take photographs during retail audits?

Yes, where agreed with you. Photographs of displays, pricing and store condition provide clear evidence for each finding.

How often should stores be audited?

Monthly or quarterly audits are most common, with extra audits around major campaigns such as Ramadan, Eid, Dubai Shopping Festival and White Friday.

Can audits be combined with mystery shopping?

Yes. A combined visit gives you both the service experience and the store compliance picture in a single report.

Is a retail audit the same as an accounting audit?

No. Our retail audits check in-store execution and customer-facing standards, not financial records or stock valuation.
