- Registration fee scams: you are asked to pay to join or to buy a training course
- Gift card scams: you are told to buy gift cards and send the codes as an assignment
- Fake job adverts that ask for your Emirates ID, passport and bank details before any assignment
Warning signs
- Any request to pay money to join or to receive work
- Being asked to send money, gift cards or cryptocurrency to anyone
- Unsolicited messages offering high pay for very little work
- Poor spelling, free email addresses and no verifiable company details
- Pressure to act immediately
How genuine mystery shopping companies work
- Registration is free
- Assignments come with a clear brief, fee and deadline before you accept
- You are paid after completing an approved report
- Purchases, when required, are small and reimbursed after the assignment
- The company has a verifiable address, phone number and website
What to do if you suspect a scam
Do not send money or personal documents. Verify the company directly through its official website and phone number, and report suspicious messages to the relevant UAE authorities.
